Tattered Style - The Shop is a dream come true - a physical space to share the curated goods and vintage finds I love. The Shop is located in the heart of Old Town Coppell where I'll curate, stage and sell my latest finds. I'm still working out scheduling details, but plan on Friday, Saturday and Sunday operating hours - and the space will be available for private events and consultations throughout the week.

Grand Opening Weekend: December 1st - 3rd!

Stash Style | Flour Sack Towels

 

I first met Shannon Vance, from Stash Style, a few years ago when she started showing her line at the Dallas Market Vintage FINDS venue.  One thing I've learned, as I've gotten to know this petite and soft spoken woman, is she's a creative powerhouse.  Shannon, a self made artist and trend setter, along with her partner, Elton, have made quite a name for themselves within the vintage community and beyond.  They sell at numerous shows each year including Round Top's Antique Week.  Their keen sense of style and ingenuity bodes them well in their procuring of vintage boots, flannel shirts, selvedge jeans and vintage military wear.  The two have become favored purveyors throughout U.S. shows and markets.  Additionally, they have added candles, silk screened T-shirts, restaurant ware coffee mugs, totes and zippered bags (all made in the U.S.A.) to their line.  

For now, let me focus on one of my favorites in their home goods line; their flour sack kitchen towels.  Each towel is made of 100% cotton and has been silk screened with one of many of Shannon and Elton's clever quotes or sentiments.

Soft and easy to care for.

Besides invoking a smile to your face and their usefulness in the domestic arena, the towels also make great gifts.  Who wouldn't want one of these as an addition to their kitchen?

I'm happy to be selling Stash Style's kitchen towels at Fleastyle on Saturday, March 12th at Fair Park.  Be sure to come visit Tattered Style in the Automotive Bldg.  You won't want to miss out on this flea market affair with more than 250 makers and vintage collectors extraordinaire.

Heart and Soul in San Diego | A Home Tour

A few months ago, my husband and I had a little getaway trip to southern California.  We were anxious to stop in for a visit with our friends, Tara Gasparian and Jeff Plapp.  Tara, a jewelry designer and her husband, Jeff, an artist/educator, moved to their charming Crafstman Bungalow in 1998.  At the time, the community had mere hopes that it would become the trendy neighborhood that it is today.  Since then, the couple continue to impart their artistic touches on their San Diego home they share with their dog and three cats.

The bungalow is filled with art, eclectic finds and treasures from their trips to Provence and the South of France.  Many of the art pieces, like the one above, are originals painted by Jeff, who majored in fine arts in college.  The faux fireplace adds an architectural element and warmth to the living area.  

One of a kind vintage accessories are sprinkled throughout the home.  A good many of the unique curiosities are finds from antique stores, flea markets and tag sales.

Tara and Jeff's collections provides a look into the playfulness of the couple and also adds a bit of whimsy to the home's mood.



Near and dear to her heart, the dining room boasts some of Tara's most prized paintings from her father's collection. *More about Frankie the pup in a minute.

 

The portrait of Tara above is one of the many created by her dad, who was a favored and popular artist at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts throughout the 70's and 80's.   



Every nook and cranny of this charming home spills over with surprises.  Including the kitchen who touts this fabulous 1940's O'Keefe and Merritt stove.  The vintage Dutch enamel chocolate advertisement was found at The Alameda Flea Market.  Colorful McCoy pottery abounds throughout the home as well.  

Frankie, the couple's Papillon Chihuahua, takes a rest in the master bedroom where generous light floods in from the windows and doors that lead out to the green space and patio.  The trio of 1960's mirrors above the bed are from Spain.

Prior to Tara's custom jewelry making career, she was an interior designer and a ran a vintage clothing shop.  Coupled with Jeff's artistry, the two have masterfully outfitted every corner of their abode.

Above are just a few of Tara's beautifully pieces of jewelry.  The majority of her line has vintage pieces incorporated into the designs; many of which she has procured from her travels.  You can find out more about Tara's jewelry here.

A peek into the bathroom, not surprisingly, the coolness continues....  

The tour ends with a view onto the tropical feeling patio where these two artists can unwind after a busy day.  Kantha cloths draped casually over the lawn chairs add a pop of color.  

Obviously, my suspicion that Tara and Jeff's home would be filled to the brim with heart and soul proved true.  Aside from the fact that I love these two dearly, their cozy cottage left me yearning to pay them another visit soon.  

Rearranging / Graduation Celebration

Today, I spent some time rearranging and freshening the home of a client (and new friend) Barbara. She's been busying herself; getting ready to celebrate her daughter, Leah's, graduation from high school and has been slammed with party planning details. I was happy to help her out with accessorizing and reconfiguring some of her spaces and was even more thrilled to use numerous vintage family items in the decor.

Barbara has many wonderful old family pieces.  I love the vintage school banner (above).  As you can see, I had a little helper; Willow was quite intrigued with everything that was going on.

There's so much wonderful light in Barbara's home ~ I think it made for some pretty photographs.

Hubby will be quite pleased that his Nittany Lion (crouched on the table) has a place of honor. 

The hutch is a family heirloom passed down from the homeowner's mom. The shelves were impossible to adjust so I decided to hang a fun Dallas poster inside (a gift from their son's teacher when he graduated from high school) and framed it off with a couple of antique clocks.

The building blocks are also a family treasure that has been passed down, as well as the black and white framed photograph of the old family homeplace.

It was a fun time accessorizing and arranging for such a special event.  I enjoyed myself immensely as I learned about this sweet family and heard the stories behind so many gems (I especially love the grandfather clock above).

I left happy to have been a small part of the upcoming graduation celebration.  Congratulations dear Leah ~ much love to you and your sweet family!  xo ~ dana.

Wine Cork Jewelry Organizer / DIY

The other day as I was getting ready to leave the house, I was hurriedly trying to untangle a necklace from my collection. Admittedly, I was frustrated and thought surely there has to be an easier way to organize these suckers. It occurred to me that a simple wine cork could be the solution to my problem.

Here's an easy DIY I came up with...

Things You Need:  

Wine Corks
2 1/2" Trim Screws
Electric Drill
Drill Press (optional)
Drill Bits

Fortunately, my son owns a drill press that I was lucky enough to borrow.  If you don't have a drill press, a handheld drill will get the job done.  I eyeballed the center of the cork and pre-drilled through each cork.

Next, I attached the corks to the wall (there was no rhyme or reason to positioning the corks; I simply arranged them randomly).  Tip:  It helps to sink the trim screw most of the way through the cork prior to attaching to the wall.  I used my cordless drill for this process and completed the project in no time.

I could have easily lined the corks up on a piece of wood trim and hung it as one unit. However, I opted to let each cork stand alone and in the process something artistic developed.  These days, I'm all about simplicity and I think this DIY project nailed it on the head! :)

Afternoon Sunlight

I recently walked into my room and found this corner to be so pleasing to my senses. Nothing elaborate by many standards. Nonetheless, this spot makes me happy.

The vintage desk turned bedside table, was a lucky find I recently purchased from Thrift Studio (now going on thru May 23rd).

Resting on the table, is Downtown Chic by the dynamic design duo, Robert and Cortney Novogratz. It's another recent purchase from Thrift Studio (although it was published in 2009, it's new to me). ;)

The vintage silver and brass lassi cup was one I picked up from new friend, Courtney, over at Mela & Roam. I love putting fresh cuttings from the yard in it.

The vintage french hotel trinket dish I found on an excursion to a Paris flea market.  It holds spare change and things.

The simplicity of design and the sunshine filtering through the window was so pretty to me, I just had to share. I hope your week is going splendidly and that you find a smidgen of joy in a corner of your home.

Mid-Century Modern Hairpin Table / DIY

Whether you like Mid-Century modern design or not, here is a great little table to make that you can use most anywhere.  This is probably one of the easiest DIY projects to date.

Here's the things you will need:

• Wood Top / Mine is a plate charger I purchased here; you can also find similar ones here.
• Hair Pin Legs / Mine are vintage, but you can get similar ones here.
• Tape Measure
• Drill/Drill bit
• Screwdriver
• Pan Head Wood Screws

Position the legs upside down on the charger.  Measure and mark holes so the legs will be equal distances apart

 

Pre-drill the holes.

Attach the legs with the wood screws.

See what I mean?  An easy and inexpensive table with tons of charm.
