Round Top or Bust

Rain or shine ~ it makes no difference to me.  I'm off to Round Top with my dear friend Kelley ~ who blogs at The Hidden List.  Together, I'm sure we're going to wrangle up all kinds of goodies from one of the best flea markets in the country.  I hope to be sharing some pics of all the cool stuff we come across soon.

The vintage amber apothecary jars and industrial wheel were flea finds ~ and now rest in the niche of one of my clients living rooms.  I love the mix of the glass and iron together.  Along with a personal photo, it makes for a cozy vignette.

Finds like these, are bountiful at flea markets across the country. I'm headed out now to one of my faves! I'll see you soon. :)

Emporium Pies

Image via
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon while strolling the streets of The Bishop Arts District in Dallas, my friend Kelley (The Hidden List) and I stumbled upon the newly opened Emporium Pies.  The quaint shop is owned and operated by Megan Wilkes and Mary Sparks.  They offer up quite a tantalizing selection of from-scratch pies.

To name a few: Mr. Macintosh (apple cranberry), The Drunken Nut (bourbon pecan) and Mellow Yellow (lemon chiffon). They even offer a gluten free variety, The Smooth Operator (french silk chocolate with a pretzel crust), if you call ahead and request it.  Selections may be purchased by the slice or you can take home a whole pie for all to enjoy.

Which now brings me to the amazing fence visable as you approach the cozy shop. The giant oversized sheet music creation is fabulous. I can easily see this duplicated in an interior space.

Wouldn't it be fabulous used as a feature wall for an avid music lover?  I'm hoping your enjoying a wonderful weekend.  And if you're in the Dallas area, be sure and pay a visit to Emporium Pies!

Snapshot of Inspiration

What could be more lovely than a stack of old leather bound books with a vintage camera propped on top?  Presently I can't think of anything ~ this is what is inspiring me today.  The photograph comes from a vignette I put together for a client who has a passion for photography.

Why not surround yourself with things you love?  It's touches like this that make a house a home and breathes personality into a space.  I'd love to know what's inspiring you today.  I hope you have a good weekend!

"Cyclists" ~ Gabe Gardinale

Recently, I had the delight of commissioning yet another painting by artist and friend ~ Gabe Cardinale.  You've met Gabe before ~ read more about him here.  The task at hand was to capture my client's passion for cycling and additionally incorporate lots of color ~ something that would really pop in a space.

As you can see, Gabe successfully succeeded with the mission given him.  Cyclists is full of color, detail and originality.

This monochromatic bachelor pad now sports this colorful piece of art and echos the owner's interest in cycling.  Thanks Gabe for another unique and beautiful piece.  If you or someone you know would like to commission an original piece by Gabe, please contact him here or here.

A Labor of Love

This Labor Day, I'm enjoying a day off from my normal routine.  And yet somehow I got wrangled into helping my youngest son, Gavin, revamp his room.  After recently helping my hubby with his office and my two other sons with their apartments, I could hardly refuse.

While, we're busy schlepping furniture from one room to another, I thought I might share with you this fabulous A-frame sign that was acquired from Curiosities in Dallas.

I still get weak in the knees when it comes to cool signage.  I think the mix of red, white and black offers up the perfect graphic combination.

Now it's time to get back to work ~ so I'm off to complete this labor of love and help Gavin finish up his space.  And might I add, I'm so thankful he's still asking for help and enjoys spending time with  mom ~ it's a good Labor Day.  I hope yours is good too!  See you soon.  :)
