Feeling Artsy

Today I'm feeling especially artsy or you could say "puttsy" ~ either one ~ they are both interchangeable to me.  Probably because I'm dreaming of how the installation will come together in the space at market next week ~ read more here.

Also, for me, puttsing with my stuff is therapeutic and a great stress reliever.  I lose myself in the moment and time stands still.  It's my happy place.

Things I love about this installation ~

1) The clothing rack for sure ~ it has an adjustable second bar.  2) The vintage movie projector screen.

3) The brown paper stenciled letters ~ I spelled "HOME" out with and attached to the screen with electrical tape.

 4) The vintage French Linen aprons ~ they are buttery soft!  5) The old wooden hangers ~ so charming.

5) The vintage fan ~ thinking it probably wouldn't meet safety standards today but it's still a cool piece.  6) And lastly, the factory stool.  I must confess ~ I like it all.

I'm off to get ready for dinner with friends.  I celebrated my birthday yesterday and the celebration continues this evening.  I love when that happens!  ;)

Thank you for taking time to stop by Tattered Style today.  Be inspired and have a lovely weekend!  Dana

Accessorizing ~ Tattered Style

While we're recovering from a bout of the krud around here (cold/flu season has arrived!) how about boot scootin your way through this post today to see a couple of really simple ways to add a little tattered style to your space?  Shown here, well loved and worn vintage boots line a baseboard and become an interesting part of the decor.

The four best reasons to buy vintage boots?  1).  They're already broken in.  2).  They cost a fraction of what you would pay for them new in a retail store.  3).  They provide instant art and are a unique and surprising accessory when stylizing a space.  4).  They free up much needed closet space!  :)

Another idea ~ collected heart shaped rocks (a freebie) act as instant, textural "artifacts" ~ these were picked up on various riverbeds over the years while on vacation.  They bring back fond memories of times together with family and friends.

Propped against the iron arrow, found here for $9, the "hearts of stone" bring a touch of warmth to my guest room.

Vintage wood hangers also act as an interesting accent to this earthy vignette.  And ~ one of their main attractions was the thrifted price of less than a dollar each.  I love the mix of iron, wood and stone that these simple elements bring to this space.  Thanks for stopping by to check out a few tattered style accessorizing ideas.  Hope you two step your way back by here again soon!  :)

Keepsakes & Thrift Store Finds

Thrift store shopping is always an adventure for me.  Some of my favorite things have been rescued from CCA, a local stop.  I pop in as frequently as possible to see what goodies might lie in wait of rescuing.  I usually find something that has great potential if just given a second chance.

I lucked into this antique door on one of my excursions ~ it's off an old wardrobe.  I was attracted to its handle and the keyhole hardware and, after further inspection, I also discovered a mirrored door on the flip-side.  It cost a mere $18.00 ~ so there was no debate about it coming home with me.

It leans against the wall in a corner of my bedroom ~  adorned with several sentimental family heirlooms.

The gown was Nathanael's when he was a baby ~ hand-stitched by Nana before he was born.  Nat's sister, Datha, told me their mom was bed fast due to to complications during her pregnancy and she spent weeks constructing this delicate little garment for Nat.  Datha recalled coming in from play and pouncing on the bed to chat ~ Nana would tell her to be careful so she wouldn't soil the little gown that she was making for their new baby.

I love the intricacy of all the little tucks and pleats.  There's no way you can put a price tag on something like this that Nana so lovingly created.

~ Vintage chains and necklaces ~

The cameo belonged to Nat's Aunt Jewel ~ it's one of my favorites ~ I wear it often ~ layering it with  other vintage necklaces.

Aunt Jewel's husband ~ Uncle Doyle ~ a black and white photo of him as a young man remains intact inside the cameo.

A vintage skeleton key strung on an antique chain.

The glass lamp ~ yet another CCA find ~ scooped up for a couple of bucks.  I dressed it up with a new linen shade.  A cozy little corner of my bedroom ~ made special with family keepsakes and some humble thrift store finds = instant gratification. :)
