Stash / Our Last Day at Dallas Market!

In January, Tattered Style came together with three other friends, Gloria of A Modern Glo, Kelley of The Hidden List and Lisa of Cut and Paste to form Stash.  The Dallas Market Vintage FINDS show was our first opportunity to share and show our many varied vintage finds.  This past week we came together again at the second Vintage FINDS show at the Dallas Market.  It has been a week filled with excitement as we have made new friends and have had the opportunity to display and sell many wonderful unique and one of a kind vintage items.  If you are a designer or part of the retail trade, please drop in today.  We would love to brainstorm staging and display ideas with you!!!  Here's a sampling of some of the many varied treasures we carry:

Wine Cork Dimmer Control

I'm up to my eyeballs in vintage wonderfulness this week at the Dallas Market Vintage FINDS show.  In lieu of a lengthier post, I'm sharing a photo of how I've remedied a little problem with a very simple solution.  I used a wine cork as a stand-in dimmer control button.  The stem on the dimmer control is ancient and I couldn't find a replacement button anywhere to fit.  Using a kitchen knife, I cut a wine cork down to the desired size and drilled a hole into the end of the cork.   I then simply pushed it onto the stem.  I've had more people comment on it when they come over ~ and several suggested I share it on Tattered Style.  I hope you find it helpful.

Thanks for understanding about my time limitations this week.  I hope to be posting pics in a few days of the event.  I think you will like what you see.  Hoping you come back soon!

Feeling Artsy

Today I'm feeling especially artsy or you could say "puttsy" ~ either one ~ they are both interchangeable to me.  Probably because I'm dreaming of how the installation will come together in the space at market next week ~ read more here.

Also, for me, puttsing with my stuff is therapeutic and a great stress reliever.  I lose myself in the moment and time stands still.  It's my happy place.

Things I love about this installation ~

1) The clothing rack for sure ~ it has an adjustable second bar.  2) The vintage movie projector screen.

3) The brown paper stenciled letters ~ I spelled "HOME" out with and attached to the screen with electrical tape.

 4) The vintage French Linen aprons ~ they are buttery soft!  5) The old wooden hangers ~ so charming.

5) The vintage fan ~ thinking it probably wouldn't meet safety standards today but it's still a cool piece.  6) And lastly, the factory stool.  I must confess ~ I like it all.

I'm off to get ready for dinner with friends.  I celebrated my birthday yesterday and the celebration continues this evening.  I love when that happens!  ;)

Thank you for taking time to stop by Tattered Style today.  Be inspired and have a lovely weekend!  Dana

Before and After / Drop Cloth Magic

Today I'm sharing a quick "Before" and "After" project.  The French chair, shown above, was a bit formal for my liking and simply didn't fit in the relaxed environment of my home.  I was looking to update it a bit but I wanted an inexpensive alternative to pricey upholstery fabric.

Once again, my favored drop cloths came to the rescue.  I like the clean look the chair now has.  And since I pre-washed and dried the drop cloths before I reupholstered the chair ~ I can easily clean any spills off with soap and water.  **For another drop cloth redo ~ click here.

On another note ~ I'm looking for a new rug for my sitting room ~ **note the one above.  I'm looking for something a little more contemporary, much less fussy and a lot more care free.  What do you think I should replace it with?  I'm off to prepare more items for Dallas Market ~ Vintage FINDS.  I hope you have a wonderful week!

Letter Love

I have a fascination for letters and numbers of all sorts.  They seem to pop up all over my house.  The "P" collection, shown hanging above, is a random grouping displayed in my powder bath.  I acquired this motley crew of letters over time from various people and places.  And of course, each has a story.  Today I thought I would share them with you.  Oh, in case you were wondering about the significance of the letter "P' ~ it's the first initial of my last name.

The larger metal "P" is from a collection of letters used on an old movie marquee.  The smaller one is an old printer's block letter.  I found them both at a flea market.

I made this "P" from sheet rock and spray paint ~ check it out here!

This tin "P" was a Christmas gift from my niece, Brittney.  She found it here at Urban Outfitters.

I purchased the cardboard letter at a stationary shop for a couple of dollars.  The small wooden "P" came from the clearance section at Pottery Barn.

I love how this arrangement is a bit quirky and how the letters seem to be hanging out together on this old peg rack.  It's a nice focal point for the powder room and it makes me happy.

Do you have any funky letters/numbers displayed creatively in your home?  I would love to see how you've used them!

Please come back and see me again here soon.  Also, I would love for you to check out my Pinterests ~ you can do so here.

Fleaing to my Heart's Content

Recently, I hit the road to do a little flea marketing.  I'm gearing up (no pun intended:) for the next  Dallas Market Vintage Home FINDS show which is coming up later this month.  I thought I would share some of my most recent finds from a fleaing excursion.  As always, I was amazed and fascinated at the never ending abundance of unique items I ran across while on a shopping adventure.  Most of these goodies will end up at market ~ while others will go on to live in some of my client's homes.

Convex Mirror ~ In it's former life, this mirror served as a security mirror.  I love that it's convex and has a pivot on the back of it ~ its angle and position can be adjusted.

Book Press ~ I'll remove the random piece of wood the vendor laid across the bottom of the press so all of the beauty of this vintage piece can be appreciated.  I can't wait to give the press a good scrub ~ it's going to be spectacular!

60's Pendant Light ~ This funky 60's light is so cool!  The combo of the wood and cork makes it so interesting.

Laundry Cart ~ I have great plans for the skeletal remains of this old laundry cart.  It still sports it's original casters and will soon be outfitted with an interesting top so it will have a functional surface.

Spacers ~ These old industrial spacers will soon be reinvented as candle holders!

Leather Doctor's Bag ~ I was thrilled to run across this old doctor''s bag.  It is the perfect accessory for a design plan I've been working on.  The client is in the medical profession and was excited about this find (yea)!

Shopping Basket ~ A sweet little cart on wheels.  It came in handy as I loaded it down with goodies throughout the day.

Industrial Shelving ~ This sturdy cart with adjustable shelves has possibilities galore.  I would use it as  as a bookshelf, media center, display stand or as functioning storage in a kitchen or closet.

Ballot Box ~ This metal canister was actually used as a ballot box on an Indian reservation in Kansas.  Notice the the slot on top where the ballots were dropped through and also the hinged hardware where a padlock was placed on.  I'll use it as a side table ~ it will also provide extra storage.

Factory Stool ~ I love these old stools ~ still highly functional and useful.  I was happy to find out it's legs are also adjustable.

Medical Stand ~ I wish my photo did this old medical stand better justice.  I'm going to clean it up and add a marble piece of slab to it.  Several ideas for it's use are running around in my head i.e. a plant stand, entry table or an art pedestal.  I can't wait to see how it ends up.

Thanks for stopping by today to visit Tattered Style.  I better scoot off and get busy cleaning this stuff up. I hope your week is a splendid one!

P.S.  Put it on your calendar ~ once again, Gloria Burson (A Modern Glo), Kelley Copeland (The Hidden List) and Lisa Johnson (Cut and Paste) and myself ~ Dana Pugh (Tattered Style) will be coming together as Stash to exhibit our wares at the Dallas Market Vintage Finds show.  If you're part of the retail trade, please come by and see us on June 21 - 25.  We look forward to seeing you soon!
