Twine and Scissors / DIY

After just getting over the flu (*Note To Self ~ FLU SHOT NEXT YEAR!), and going straight into a week at market, this sweet treat I found one evening on my porch was just what the doctor ordered.

The vintage spool, jute twine and darling pair of scissors is too charming to tuck away in a drawer or cupboard ~ it's taking up permanent residence on my desk so I can cut off a snippet of string when tying up a package.  To make one for yourself you will need:

Supplies ~
Old Spool (Find it here)
Roll of Jute Twine (Find it here)
Small Pair of Scissors (Find it here)

Simply wind a roll of twine onto an old spool and tie a pair of scissors to the end.  Place the sharp point of the scissors in the hole on top of the spool to store the scissors.

Thank you Sharon and Kelley for making my day.  Their thoughtful gesture was a reminder for me to take time and do something nice for someone today.  Happy Saturday ~ enjoy your weekend.

Corbin ~ The Artist

(See photo below ~ that inspired this work)
Today I'm happy to feature these unique works of art created by my son, Corbin ~ the artist, who is currently studying media art in college.  One thing I love about Corbin is he has always chosen to march to the beat of his own drummer.  That combined with the fact that as long as I can remember, he's also had an interest in art ~ well let's just say the two combined makes for these most interesting works.

To describe a little bit about Corbin's style, it might help if you knew he was inspired in one of his figure drawing classes.  It was there that he was instructed in planar analysis ~ basically a technique used in learning to draw faces.

Corbin took what he learned a step further and created these colorful and soulful works of art.  I love how the layers of color add depth to the pieces.

On a side note, something you may not know about Corbin, he is challenged with a seizure disorder.  He is such an amazing young man and faces what life has handed him with an enormous amount of courage.  He takes on each day choosing to look for good in life and the best in people.

Corbin
I'm excited to see Corbin pursue his passion and can't wait to see what other beautiful works he creates.  I know he has a bright future ahead of himself as he continues on his path as an artist.

If you are interested in commissioning a work by Corbin ~ please contact him here.

Thank you for indulging this momma a bit as I bragged about my son, Corbin ~ The Artist

The Things That Matter ~ Nate Berkus

For the last several days, I've blown through (literally) a box of Kleenex ~ 184 count (yuck), drank cupfuls of green tea and have been positioned horizontally trying my best to lay low and beat the bug I've caught.  And trust me, this doesn't come easy for a girl who is always in motion.  Thankfully, I've had Nate (not Nate, my husband) Berkus to help me through it.

Every year the one thing that is always on my Christmas wish list is a new design book.  This year was no exception and at the top of my list was The Things That Matter by Nate Berkus.  Thanks to my sweet son, Corbin, I unwrapped this beautiful book on Christmas morning.

Since then, I've been wishing for some downtime to pour over it's pages.  Well, I got my wish (albeit, I wish it were under different circumstances).  This book has so much heart and soul.  It is filled with wonderful anecdotes about some amazing people, their stories (struggles and victories) and how their homes came to be.  It's a beautiful book ~ one I think would be a wonderful addition to your coffee table and/or library.

And just in case you were wondering, the multiple cups of tea I consumed from the beautiful teapot, cup and saucer ~ my youngest, Gavin, surprised me with on Christmas.  You can find them here.   Hoping you are well today ~ and that nasty bug doesn't come knocking at your door.  XO ~ Dana
